Not only are your eyes the “window to the world”, but they are also one of the most noticeable features on your face. Many initial impressions are based on the appearance of your eyes and the surrounding tissues. Not only are the eyelids and surrounding tissue important aspects of your overall appearance, their proper function is necessary for good eye health.
Eyelid conditions such as excess eyelid skin, droopy eyelids or eyelids that turn inward or outward can cause changes in your appearance, limit your vision or cause eye discomfort or pain.
Fortunately, these conditions can be successfully treated with surgery at the Eye Treatment Center. We offer a full range of services, from treating eyelid diseases to reconstructing the eyelid area to cosmetic services such as fillers, chemical peels, Botox, and cosmetic eyelid surgery.
Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure in which excess skin is removed, and the excess fat can be removed, or repositioned. Upper lid blepharoplasty can be performed for those wishing to rejuvenate their appearance or for people whose peripheral vision is limited by excess skin to the point that it affects their daily activities.
Lower Lid Bags
Lower lid blepharoplasty can also be performed to improve the appearance of "bags" by removing or repositioning the fatty tissue and by removing or tightening excess skin.
Drooping Lids/Ptosis
If the eyelid itself is droopy, this condition is called ptosis. It can appear at birth with certain medical conditions or it may develop with age or after eye surgery. This may lead to visual impairment. Ptosis surgery elevates the eyelid and can be performed to improve vision, increase symmetry between the two eyes and improve one's appearance. In some cases, both ptosis surgery and a blepharoplasty may be necessary.
Thyroid Eye Disease
At the Eye Treatment Center, we provide care for people with thyroid disease, which can cause multiple eye problems including significant changes in one's appearance, double vision, dry eyes, secondary glaucoma or in severe cases, vision loss. There are a multitude of treatment options and they are tailored to each patient’s individual condition. Treatments range and can include using prisms for double vision, using punctal plugs and/or drops to alleviate dry eye symptoms, removing the bones around the eye or performing eyelid surgery to restore one's appearance or prevent vision loss.
Other Services
Other eyelid conditions that often bring people into our office include eyelid malpositions, such as entropion (a condition where the eyelid turns in), or ectropion (a condition where the eyelid turns out). This can lead to discomfort because the lashes may rub against the surface of the eye, or a person may experience excessive tearing or dryness due to exposure. These conditions can usually be successfully treated with surgery. Excessive tearing is another problem that bring many people in to our office. There may multiple factors contributing to the tearing, and we are experienced in medical and surgical treatments to improve this bothersome issue.
Dr. Mok also treats skin cancers involving the eyelids, often working in close conjunction with a Moh's surgeon. After clearance of the cancer is achieved, Dr. Mok will reconstruct the residual defect with the goal of achieving the best functional and cosmetic outcome.
Non-Surgical Cosmetic Services
We also offer a range of cosmetic services, such as Botox, chemical peels, and fillers such as Restylane, Juvederm, and Sculptra in order to help diminish the appearance of wrinkles around the eyes and the face, or to decrease the appearance of dark circles under the eye or lower lid bags. After an individual evaluation, we can decide on a plan with you to determine which treatment is optimal for your situation.
