Dr. Irene Fong Sasaki, M.D.

Dr. Irene Fong Sasaki is a caring and highly skilled, board-certified surgeon who specializes in Cataract and Glaucoma Surgery. She has practiced in Long Beach since 1995 and has built her practice through word of mouth referrals from satisfied patients and referring physicians.

Dr. Sasaki loves to care for people and is dedicated to providing her patients with the highest quality eye care.

Dr. Sasaki is a native Angelino and received her undergraduate degree from the University of California at Berkeley. She earned her medical degree at the Medical College of Pennsylvania and then completed her internship at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco and a residency in ophthalmology at King Drew Medical Center. Dr. Sasaki wanted to increase her ability to diagnose and treat glaucoma and went on to pursue more extensive training by completing a fellowship in glaucoma at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA.

She is Board Certified and is current with new advances in sutureless, microincisional, laser cataract surgery and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery. She has expertise with premium lens implants including toric, multifocal and accommodating intraocular lens implants for patients who want to reduce their dependence on glasses after cataract surgery.

Dr. Sasaki is dedicated to investing in our communities. She volunteers and supports numerous organizations that promote women’s issues, youth sports and public education. Dr. Sasaki, her husband Ned, and their three sons, Matt, Kevin and Will are all baseball fans. Their home team is the Los Angeles Dodgers. She enjoys cooking, exploring new cuisines, traveling and sharing time with her family.

Dr. Audrey Mok, M.D.

Dr. Audrey Mok is a board-certified ophthalmologist whose clinical and surgical expertise is focused on Cataract Surgery, Oculoplastics and Neuro-ophthalmology. She strives to bring her patients excellent and compassionate care.

Dr. Mok’s initial exposure to eye care started when she was a young child, when she realized that she could “actually see the leaves on the trees” after obtaining her first pair of glasses. She grew up locally in Southern California, attending St. Joseph High School in Lakewood. She began to think about a career in medicine during this time and during her undergraduate studies at UCLA, where she graduated cum laude with a B.S. in Psychobiology. Dr. Mok attended medical school at Georgetown University, and then decided to return to California to complete an internship in Internal Medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

She then moved to Chicago to train at the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary for her ophthalmology residency. During that time, she realized that she wished to specialize even further, and continued training at the University of California, Irvine, to complete a fellowship in Oculoplastics and Neuro-ophthalmology. During her fellowship, she gained additional experience in medical and surgical treatments for patients with eyelid disorders, eyelid reconstruction, thyroid disease, strokes, and other neurological conditions which can affect eyesight. Dr. Mok also performs cosmetic procedures such as upper and lower eyelid blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), and is skilled in the use of Botox and Xeomin for both cosmetic and medical (i.e. for eyelid and facial spasms). She has extensive experience in injecting soft-tissue fillers such as Belotero, Restylane, Juvederm, Radiesse,and Sculptra. She has presented posters and papers at international ophthalmological meetings, and since joining Eye Treatment Center in 2005 she has served as a primary or sub-investigator in multiple cutting-edge clinical research trials.

Dr. Mok was eager to return to the Southern California community that she grew up in, and is committed to her patients and to the area. In her current practice, she is also a skilled cataract surgeon well-versed in small-incision and laser cataract surgery and premium intraocular lens technology. Dr. Mok has been named by her peers to the Super Doctors® Rising Stars list in the past, and to Los Angeles Magazine’s Top Doctors list for 2018. In the past, she has served as Chair for the Department of Ophthalmology at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. She enjoys spending time with her husband and their two sons, traveling, running, and reading.

Dr. Hans Steinmann, O.D.

Dr. Hans Steimann is an optometrist licensed by the California State Board of Optometry with certification in Therapeutic Pharmaceutical Agents. He has been in practice since 2007. He is committed to assisting his patients with kindness and delivering the most comprehensive, up to date medical care available.

As an Orange County native, Dr. Steimann attained his undergraduate education from Chapman University where he graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. in Biology. He obtained his medical training at the Southern California College of Optometry. During his internships Dr. Steimann spent time training at the Eye Care Center in Fullerton, the Wellish Vision Institute in Las Vegas, Nevada, the Barnet Dulaney Perkins Eye Center in Phoenix, Arizona, as well as the US Naval Hospital Yokosuka, Japan.

His areas of expertise include family practice vision and health exams, contact lens fittings, children’s exams, vision therapy, ocular disease, and low vision consultation. He is also active in co-managing patients with LASIK eye surgery, cataract surgery, glaucoma, and dry eye.

In order for his patients to see as clearly as possible, Dr. Steimann specializes in using the latest, most precise vision technology available. Utilizing the i-Profiler by Zeiss he has the ability to prescribe and fit custom “High-Definition” spectacle lenses, allowing patients to see sharper and clearer than ever before. He is also highly experienced in fitting the most technologically advanced contact lenses to allow his patients to have the best vision, comfort, and health with their lenses.

Growing up in southern California, Dr. Steimann has been active in swimming and water polo though a collegiate level and continues to play today. During his undergraduate and optometry school, Dr. Steimann worked as a high fashion model for designers like Abercrombie & Fitch, Prada, Versace, among numerous others, walking the runways of Milan, Paris, and Munich. Dr. Steimann has a passion for design and fashion and in 2007 started his own jewelry company designing and creating his own collection, which he still actively engaged in. He is also an auto enthusiast and has a passion for owning, driving and enjoying cars of all kinds. Dr. Steimann loves to travel, attend live theater, spend time with loved ones, and truly has a zest for life.

Dr. Shalu Gupta, M.D.

Board-Certified Ophthalmologist Cataract and Facial Rejuvenation Specialist

Shalu Gupta, M.D. is a skilled and compassionate board-certified ophthalmologist and a refractive surgeon who treats many eye diseases including cataracts, glaucoma, dry eye, and diabetic retinopathy. She also treats cosmetic and functional disorders of the eyelids and performs procedures such as blepharoplasty, ptosis repair, and minimally invasive facial rejuvenation.

She has performed thousands of microsurgical and ophthalmic laser procedures, utilizing advanced technology for correcting myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), astigmatism and presbyopia (loss of reading vision in patients over the age of 40).

She also feels privileged to provide eye care to the underserved, seeing patients at Los Angeles County Medical facilities, and finds rewarding her medical mission work abroad. Most recently she volunteered her expertise and internationally travelled to Uganda and Mexico to provide eye care and perform surgeries for hundreds of patients over a span of few days.

Dr. Gupta enjoys combining art and medicine to help her patients look their best  by utilizing the latest in minimally invasive facial enhancement techniques.

Dr. Gupta received her undergraduate degree in Biochemistry at the University of California, Los Angeles. She has also worked as a health services researcher, focusing on diseases of the eye and their relation to patients’ quality of life. After getting her undergraduate degree she moved on to UCLAs medical school where she received her doctorate in medicine in 2003. She then completed her internship at Harbor UCLA Medical Center, Department of Emergency Medicine. Afterwards, she went on to complete her ophthalmology residency at the University of California Irvine Medical Center, where she served as chief in her final year.

Dr. Gupta is a present member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a fellow with the American Board of Ophthalmology, and member of the Orange County Society of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Gupta is fluent in Hindi, and Spanish. Her personal interests include yoga, service associated travel, and spending time with her family.

Dr. May Chan

Dr. May Chan is a Southern California native who is excited to return to her hometown to serve patients. She was born and raised in Long Beach where she attended Poly High School. Dr. Chan then attended UCLA for her undergraduate studies, where she earned a BA in Psychology. Her interest in Optometry developed during her time at UCLA, while she was volunteering with a local optometrist. She had the opportunity to participate in mission trips in West Hollywood and Mexico, and enjoyed the positive impact one could make on improving vision and providing quality eye care.

Inspired by these experiences, Dr. Chan decided on a career in Optometry, and earned her doctorate degree from Western University of Health Sciences. During her training, she was exposed to a variety of ocular issues as she completed internships at the Eye Care Center in Pomona, Jackson Vision Clinic in Seattle, Veteran’s Affairs in Tennessee, Hu Hu Kam Indian Health, and Family Optometry in Arizona.

After completing her optometry degree, Dr. Chan joined a community health center in Ventura, where she has cared for patients for the last few years. She recently moved back to Long Beach, and looks forward to growing her optometric practice here. She is licensed by the California Board of Optometry and is a member of the California Optometric Association as well as the American Optometric Association. She is a considerate and compassionate optometrist who strives to provide excellent eye care to her patients. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, exploring new restaurants, and spending time with her friends and family.

The Eye Treatment Center is a continuation of a practice that was started in Long Beach, California in 1921. All of our ophthalmologists are Board Certified and many have also completed an additional fellowship to provide you with the most expert care. A warm and welcoming staff is on hand to assist you and your doctors. We are proud to provide our patients with comprehensive eye exams and specialize in Cataracts, Laser Eye Surgery, Glaucoma, Neuro-Ophthalmology and Eye Plastic Surgery.
